-
- I really tried to avoid this: I looked on the on-line license list
- and called lots of information operators...to no avail. I am trying
- to locate my friend Greg Barrett N5BDJ. His license was last issued to
- a Thorsby, Alabama, address, but I last spoke with him when he lived in
- the Atlanta, Georgia, area.
-
- I know he operated a packet station but am having trouble finding
- him. If you can reach him, please ask him to call me, Kurt Sauer, at
- 512-346-1506 or at work at 512-329-2414.
-
- Okay, I guess I should get off my duff and get an amateur license myself,
- then I could to my own dirty work! Thanks for any help you could lend.

- I picked up three camcorder viewfinders at a surplus electronics store a

-
- there are 2 exams to a pilot's license.
-
- one is a written test...the other is a flight test by an FAA examiner who has
- to be a pilot...so there.
-
- I would say that the guys in LA appear to have been at least detected if not

- it's not as sensitive as it might need to be. it's better than it was more
- than a decade ago -- no mid-week early morning testing 125 miles away and all

-
- in a perverse way, i feel proud to know that my extra license that i merely
- worked for is worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to the slackers out

-
- IF i was ultra concerned about the potential for cheating in the VE program, i

- One of the best items to carry in the backcountry for emergency use
- would be one the new personal EPIRBs. (Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio
- Beacon), They are now available in the new 406 version. They are about as
- small as some 2Mtr handhelds, and would provide better coverage and protection
- then most any other kind of communications gear. No licencing is required, but
- they should be registered.
-
- HF gear would be unreliable due to atmospheric conditions. VHF/UHF
- would depend on nearby links, which most likely would not be available.
-
- Just my 2 cents........

- Matt: ..._._ is the prosign SK (commercial ops write VA) and is used
- to indicate the end of a QSO (or broadcast on the commercial freqs);
- it is supposed to be the very last signal you send before going on
- to another QSO or going QRT.
-
- Technically, SK or VA means ``End of Work''.
-
- The `break' or BK prosign is _..._._ although the commercial ops
- use BT: _..._
